Durham drivers shine at ‘Road-eo’ Minimize

Fall 2009
Every day, our drivers navigate some of the toughest terrain imaginable—traffic, pedestrians, construction, bad weather and more—all while carrying passengers safely to their destination. Driving in these conditions every day forces drivers to fine tune their skills.

In July, five Durham School Services drivers: Rebecca Stanton and Randy Paxson of the Wichita, Kansas facility; Nancy Kelly and Robert Guinto of the Worcester, Massachusetts facility; and Louis Gachupin of the Jemez Valley, New Mexico facility, had the opportunity to demonstrate their stellar driving skills for an international audience at the 39th Annual School Bus Driver International Safety Competition (known as the ‘Road-eo’) in Greensboro, North Carolina.

Participation in this competition is a prestigious honor. To qualify, drivers must demonstrate excellence with demanding tests and skill requirements. Only the highest-achieving drivers at the local and state levels are invited to compete at the international competition. The competition features drivers from across North America.

The 2009 Road-eo event proved to be another strong showing by Durham drivers—all were fierce competitors on a tough course. Randy Paxson made an exceptional effort, winning fourth place honors for his skills in the small bus category.

Executive Vice President of Customer Development, Barry Stock, who was in attendance for the exciting event, couldn’t have been more proud of the drivers. “Congratulations to all these drivers on their outstanding driving skills. Their hard work, dedication and commitment to driving excellence and safety helps our organization deliver on our service promise to our customers each and every day.” He added, “They are one of the reasons Durham continues to be a leader in the industry.”
